Thanks for reminding me that metacity or compiz would show up in ps. I use ps all the time just not for looking for that. :)

I had already read the stuff on the web on how to change managers in Ubuntu it just did not look like it had worked.

Now I have used ps and found that both my computers are running metacity. on one the windows-m sequence works on the other it does not. Still not sure where to look for the difference that is causing that behavior.

You could try removing the package, I suppose, but that might not lead to the
desired result depending on how your distribution handles window managers and
how the package dependencies are set up.

You could also search the Web; there should be instructions for your
distribution on how to change window managers.
