Without making the project reference changes, you'll still get unknown name errors.

Shouldn't the code changes be listed also?

Maybe windows building should have it's own page with more detailed
instructions including changes to code...

I think the goal should be to eliminate the need to make code changes. Giving inexperienced users instructions for changing code would just be asking for trouble.

No, I definitely have the project targeting .NET 3.5. I filed `Bug 639626`_ to track this particular issue.
