Hi Michael,
Michael wrote:
Well, don't get me wrong. I really appreciate all the effort
that's gone into gnome and orca, but I could appreciate it far more if I
could get anything working. Pulse audio wasn't ready for production
systems, and tossing everyone into the deep end of the pool before it
was is the wrong approach. As soon as all the bugs get ironed out in
gnome3, it's going to be ready for gnome4 to be released. I switched to
Linux in the first place, because it was more stable than Windows.
My reply:
Well, for the time being my wife and I are sticking with Ubuntu 10.04
LTS for precisely that reason. Its much more stable, and I don't feel
like I'm "being dumped into the deep end of the pool" so to speak. As
far as the future goes Gnome 3 isn't the only alternative or option
open to us. I'm strongly considering switching to XFCE or LXDE if some
of these issues don't get resolved in Gnome 3 by the time I'm ready to
upgrade to say Ubuntu 12.04 LTS etc.
Cheers!
