As an initial patch, it certainly works very well. No break up of
audio being sent to pulse, and generally ok responsiveness. However,
when reviewing lines of text in the terminal for example, it doesn't

for my taste, and flushing speech by pressing control takes a bit too
long too.
I can't confirm this!
Interupting speech works reliable here under Gentoo with pulse 0.9.19.
However we should try to find the reason for this.
I also experienced the issues others have reported with reviewing
individual letters, and letters not being spoken. I think its buffering
related, and libao doesn't play the buffer unless there is a minum
amount of audio to be played.
I think libao is not the problem here because
I checked the pulse code of libao and couldn't find any bufering stuff.
Another thing is that libao's alsa output doesn't have the mentioned
problem.
Hint: Selecting male3 voice in speech-dispatcher is a workarround for
this problem.
Unfortunately voice variants can't be selected in orca directly.
Anyway, with further tweaking, I hope we can get this to a usable
solution for speech-dispatcher.
Yea, that's it.

Halim
