In case it's helpful, I spent some time recently making the Fedora git
packages work on RHEL. The rawhide packages should now rebuild
cleanly on EL-4 and EL-5. I've been rebuilding those packages for my
EL-5 boxes for a while. I don't test EL-4 as much, so if there are
problems there, I'd be interested in knowing what there so I can fix
them.
Maybe that will make your lives a little easier, if you want to keep a
bit closer to the current git. Obviously, updating with each git
release would be way too much for the gnome.org servers, but if it
saves you some work the next time you want to go from 1.6.0.6 to
something newer, that could be nice.
