If you put that function in cell C6 on the sheet Total or First than you have a curcular reference and if it does not trigger an error then it will give you exactly twice what you expect.Any way around that?? I even thought about adding another cell that gave me the sum C6 on the totals page divided by two - but that seems like a pretty crude hack.
If you want to have the formula on the Total sheet, rename the last sheet before Total to something as Last and use '=sum(First:Last!C6)'. Your problem probably comes from the fact that Total!C6 both included in the sum and the destination of the value (the circular reference).
I am trying to put Jody's 3d references to practical application, but I'm having a problem. I have built a workbook with a sheet called First and a sheet called Total and put 4 sheets in between them. The function - '=sum(First:Total!C6)' - returns a value exactly double of what is expected. The total should be '40' (cell C6 contains the value '10' across 4 sheets), not the '80' that is produced. Any help greatly appreciated... Chris G. On Fri, 2004-03-26 at 09:54, Chris Gray wrote:I think my client will happily acquiesce to having the totals on the last page. I will post my results here shortly... Will have to investigate this one. This would add the values of all the cells in the range from allthe sheets in the range, yes?yes. What if you wanted a total for each sheet?Displayed on the first page ? hmm. Dunno if it's possible. It would be nice to think we could something like transpose(firstsheet:lastsheet:A1) but I don't see that working anytime soon _______________________________________________ gnumeric-list mailing list gnumeric-list gnome org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnumeric-list_______________________________________________ gnumeric-list mailing list gnumeric-list gnome org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnumeric-list
