Hi again,

I did the experiment with RedHat 9.  I loaded KDE 3.1 and evolution 1.4.4.

Under RH9, at 1280x1024x24bit, it runs beautifully - no perceptible delays in redraw.
Reboot same hardware to SuSE 8.2, and it runs like a wounded sloth at the same resolution.

Now what do I do?  It's only affecting evolution, but only under these circumstances.  
My guess is that no-one at Ximian will want to take this on, and SuSE's support will be at it's usual level of total unresponsiveness.
