And just after i wrote that i thought of an issue wiht the idea anyway.

With filtering, there is the potential that a folder is opened/closed
multiple times (and goes away when its closed) before the application
opens it 'for good', so infact this idea won't work quite how people
would want it to.

At least, not without some extra 'catch up new stuff' api.
