The problem I am having with the gnome-desktop install is that it says there is no package that matches that name. I was able to install gdm3 but when I try to start it the PI crashes and goes to a blank screen. 

I think the problem we are experiencing is similar but not necessarily related to gnome. When orca starts it does speak "screenreader is on" but then nothing else. I did discover that if you go to the web and get some audio playing orca does try to speak things. I think you are right about the Pulseaudio issue because if you go to something like youtube and play a video, orca will talk while other audio is being filtered through the port along with it. Is there some way to fix this isue with Pulseaudio?
