out of luck, or using software contemporary with their hardware. My OLPC XO-1 isn't going to work with Unity 3d, and probably won't work with Unity 2d as I think that needs 2d accelerated compositing support and the Ubuntu kernel has already dropped support for the AMD Geode chip (although this may have crept back in again, it comes and goes). I use it with the Fedora kernel and Gnome desktop, don't think that computer is going to get much of a software refresh in the future, but it works great with what it has got.

Personally, I'd much rather see an accessible 2d Unity so that everyone
who wants (or needs) the latest features can have them.
that would be good, if there really was one Unity program with a 2d and 3d rendering path, so that everything worked the same on both and things like keyboard shortcuts were defined once and worked on both. I think there may well be an effort to keep things consistent, however I think architecturally they are two different programs which is a bit of a recipe for failure (although we might make it work).
