That might tell you something right there.
GNOME 3.0 might be awesomesauce for new users, but it doesn't seem to
be striking a chord with existing GNOME users. So, what seems to be
happening here is trading an established user base for a potential
user base - with very little muscle to reach the potential user base.
I agree with you Joe, and find your post helpful.
It is a fact that a large number of ppl are missing the old user
experience from GNOME 2. That should not just be noticed, but seen as a
chance.
One way to go could be to further improve the now called Fallback mode
(which is planned for 3.2 and +). Another option could be to rename
Fallback to Classic. This would also not imply that it may be removed
somewhen a fallback is no longer necessary.
So why not just address both userbases? We are not far away from that.
