Okay, seems my info on Nosferatu and Metropolis was wrong. Nosferatu is at least in the EU still under copyright and Nosferatu has actually been moved from public domain back to copyright. If you know of other classics no longer under copyright, let us know.

Some really beautiful silent movies have become public domain such as
Nosferatu and Metropolis.

Those both look like excellent choices.
