I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm on this list because of the
GNOME beer events so I feel compelled to tell you my opinion :P

Translations should be about translating software, not about improving
the original strings. If you think that the metaphor is wrong you should
get it fixed upstream and updated in all the translations.
