Whould be nice if you test gtranslator from svn (It install perfectly in debian/ubuntu/gentoo
i don't know if install in other distributions). I am doing it
like kbabel style  i can. If you don't like panels i think i can change it
but i think are like kabel panels.
About libsexy: I think libsexy doesn't support spell checking with enchant in GtkTextViews.
I will investigate it better when i have more time.

would be nice to add more and discuss any if needed.
