It would be nice to know that a command line start BEFORE attempting
the GUI start will do this - is this documented somewhere, like in a
README?  (This was not a problem when I switched from CentOS to Ubuntu
almost two years ago - different Evolution, same folders, no
effort....)

I  did File->Import and selected my old Inbox to import.  As I said,
it imported fine, but everything was marked unread and there were
almost twice as many messages as I remembered being in my inbox - over
3000.  (I know, too many, but still only 1899 should have been
unread.)

I suppose that part may be unavoidable....

File system copy to another folder just to be sure they didn't get trashed.

Too many possible retorts - let's just say, yes.  :-)

Good to know - I've only been using Evo since 07, and up until now
I've loved it.

Could be - they repackage everything and sometimes an app doesn't work
right because of that.  Evo isn't alone here.
