Re: [Evolution] Sync'ing desktop & laptop Evolution

That suggests that Identity and POP/SMTP settings are not stored in
~/.evolution, but I cannot find where. Anyone know?

They are in Gconf. But please don't go grubbing around in the .gconf
file heirarchy and think that copying the info in there will work - it
probably won't, and has a high possibility of corrupting things.

(It won't work because the keys in Gconf have values that are
constructed from the hostname amongst other things.)

My ideas on how best to clone the email database to/from the laptop are
set out in another posting in here today.

Evo was never designed to be cloned or synced in this way (or any
other), so any methodology you create will be a total hack and will
ultimately result in you corrupting everything.

The best way, as others have said, is to use IMAP - you can then copy
the mail contents locally (i.e. tick the box that says "Synchronise
remote mail locally") so you have a copy when you are not online and
then let it sync back when it can.
