But still not easy enough. Given the multiple ways messages can be
ordered in the list view, plus threading on or off, plus the fact that
people frequently jump around while reading messages, it can be very
unclear *visually* what "the last deleted message" was, especially if
one has deleted it by mistake without having read it.

There is definitely a need for "undo" at this level IMHO.
