I agree with you here, but think that you've stepped ahead to quickly. 
Saying that we want Gnome to support open protocols over closed ones in
terms of GAIM doesn't really work.  The GAIM developers seem to have
made it clear that it is and will not be a 'Gnome' application, and as
such I think where you are going with Gossip is terrific.  We are in
need of an instant messenger for Gnome.

Patience seems to be the best point of action on this. People for the
most part are using Gaim it seems, anyway.  Why not hold off on saying
that we have a solution until there truly is a Gnome integrated
application to offer.
