Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I will still avoid ADO.net for my own project in the hopes that it will increases its potential uptake. If I end up with a nice abstracted interface I will of course make it available to the rest of the community. Until then keep up the great work. I am a user of Banshee and think you guys have done an amazing job with it.

The people who are in the position to take decicions are actually quite convinced that using mono is not a bigger risk than using any other software. Its mostly a minority of non-developers that yells so loud. But you know what: next to my flat is a school where children also yell loud all day and its just best to ignore that...
