Building from svn [Was: Re: more documentation]

The only patch debian is currently carrying to the auto* stuff is just
there to be less noisy, not to fix any error.

All the debian package does when building is

./configure --prefix=/usr --with-readline --libexecdir=/usr/lib
make install

Having installed:
Build-Depends: gettext (>= 0.10.37-1), debhelper (>= 4.0.0), libxinerama-dev,
 libesd0-dev, rep-gtk (>= 0.18-9), texinfo, libgmp3-dev (>= 4.1.4-8),
 libgtk2.0-dev (>= 2.0.6), libxrender-dev, libxext-dev, libxt-dev,
 autotools-dev, automake1.10, dpatch, librep-dev (>= 0.17-12)
