Re: [orca-list] GUI Redesign or clearup and modernization

I agree with Kendell. Please file bug reports and report the problems
to the list. Contribute, don't complain.

hi
Joanie is working to improve the braille support in orca. I think all
those braille users should keep reporting those things that don't work
well in orca so they can get fixed. The only reason I'm mentioning this
is I've seen quite a few posts on this list complaining about it, and
comparing it to other platforms and screen readers and finding it
lacking. I don't own a braille display, but I have no doubt orca has
issues in this area. But they can get fixed. They'll only get fixed if
those users that depend on orca for braille do their part. File bugs,
report issues, that kind of thing. I'm not criticizing anyone on this
list, so don't raise your hackles. I'm just pointing out that on other
platforms, those users give back and help their respective screen
readers fix issues, if they're able to modify the source code. I'm not
sure what users of closed source screen readers do, but my guess would
be complain until the company fixes the issues.

As I have mentioned before, I have received a refreshable Braille
display and other equipment from my state vocational rehabilitation
agency for my job and I am not a blind entitlement baby.

The two braille displays that I have owned were both purchased by me,
with
significant contributions from scholarships and similar sources that
offered
assistance to students.

I now also have access to displays via work.

I think BRLTTY under Linux is excellent braille display software,
especially
when used at the console. Braille display support in Orca has some
long-standing issues, including the word-wrap problems mentioned earlier
in
this thread. Also, if you use panning keys on the braille display, Orca
presents the application using flat review, which isn't ideal.

The problem with flat review, and this is especially true in braille, is
that
it offers only the text portions of the interface. You can't read and
interact
with the full hierarchy of controls.
