I was not trying to say that nvda did not have a way to speak one link per

at least trying to say is that I thought that default was to present things
as they appear on the screen to sighted folks which of course often means
multiple links per line. I think the setting says something like "when
supported" at the end of the setting's description.
Am I incorrect about the default behavior, i.e. are you saying that by
default nvda shows one link per line no matter what?
You are correct - this is the default behaviour and is a gotcha for people
migrating from JAWS.
I can see both sides of the argument and am glad it's switchable on
several screen readers (it's even switchable in JAWS, its default is just
different). IMHO the one downside to the layout way of presenting things
is that you need to specifically position yourself on a link before it
will activate.
