Re: [orca-list] heads up: beta code for progress bar beeps in orca coming soon

hi
Really? I've seen a few very obscure pieces of hardware that doesn't
work properly with pulse, but for the vast majority, including a mac
that I have occasional access to it works fine. Not to say pulse
doesn't have issues, it does. Back on topic, there really should be a
beep volume just as there is a speech volume, and preferably in the
same place, the voice tab. I don't know how difficult or easy this is
to implement so I'm not going to say it'll be easy but it should
certainly be an option. I'm excited to see this in official orca, I've
been wanting this for years. NVDA's implementation is pretty good
though I like our beeps better, they don't get nearly as high pitched,
so mellisa doesn't complain and bug me to turn them off lol.
Thanks

Yes, a seperate beep volume would be ideal, but do not know if it
would be hard to code. I'm not in the pulse hating camp, but I must
say I've heard some hardware this last several months that does not
get along wih pulse, and the little hacks that fix it on some
systems do not work consistently on the machines I'm talkng about.
That's OT, but just saying that there will be people looking to
avoid pulse for the foreseeable future, and not even talking about
the reactionary types who long for a world where time was
frozensometime way back when, and whos fallback plan is freezing it
today. I have not tried cutting back o voice volume, but I think
that would not effect beep volume, so in the case that backing the
beep off to where it's a bit too quiet for some they could just
turn their voice volume down and raise overall system volume some.
