Dear users,
To use Ubuntu Mate BETA with Firefox and Orca successfully, do The
following.
1. Install The system.
After boot, type Yours password You will not get speech feetback.
Warning! You must enter password even if You have set login
automatically radio button in The Ubuntu installer. When You have done
that, Press ALT+F2 and run orca.
Then find The assistive technology menu item inside preferences sub
menu. Check The enable assistive technology support check box.
Then find The Run at start check box at The visual tab inside Preferred
applications dialog.
Check The checkbox to have Orca run automatically.
Then press The close buttons to save The settings.
Then install up to date Firefox WEB browser by using
apt-get update
apt-get install firefox
Warning!! Do not apply distribution upgrades, in other case, You will
get some hydden stability issue, so The Ubuntu error reporter will start
to have issues with The main startup Orca screen reader Python module
/usr/sbin/orca.py
If somebody have also fall in love with previous old method, which have
reported ARIA live regions which were not designed exactly according to
The ARIA standard, You can downgrade to The older Orca version available
in Ubuntu Trusty repository.
You can to that by downloading Orca Debian package by using The
following direct link.
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gnome-orca/gnome-orca_3.10.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb
Then as root
Go to The folder, where .deb package with Orca 3.10 resides.
And type:
dpkg-i gnome-orca_3.10.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb
You will get older Orca with old algorithms for fetching ARIA dynamic
WEB content, and if You love this Orca feature like i, make so many
backups of this .deb file as possible to various legally available file
storage places on The internet, because this amazing feature of Orca
have been gone for ever.
But many other new and much more important changes inside newest Orca
source code have been happenet.
Orca support now The newest Gecko and The speed of build in keyboard
navigation for WEB browsing is very, very near to The speed of NVDA
screen reader for Windows.
Mr Joanmarie Diggs have done very complex changes to The Orca and he is
working very hard for The blind community.
Names of background colours can be retrieved by speech engines, there
are also many other features which are perfect for blind users.
