I use Voxin for the most part. It's the default synthesizer on my
production system for both Orca and Emacspeak. I am using eSpeak more
and more often. For example, on my VM where I'm running vinux 4.0, I'm
using eSpeak exclusively, and I'm spending more and more time in that
VM. I'm sure I'll install Voxin at some point when I move my production
system to Vinux 4.0, but I'm toying with the idea of going with eSpeak.
As I'm sure most would agree, it's good to be comfortable with multiple
accessibility options.
I've been using Eloquence with JAWS for about 15 years, so it's also
what I'm comfortable with. Interestingly enough though, NVDA with eSpeak
is my preferred access on those occasional times I boot up into Windows
now. In addition to be used to it, I also find Voxin has a few
advantages over eSpeak. The one I can think of is that if I'm arrowing
quickly up and down a list, with Voxin, there's a bit of a hesitation
between lines. With eSpeak, the transition is much more smooth. This
forces me to pay much more attention when using eSpeak, so I can pick up
the content from one line to the next.
When it comes to accessibility and efficiency, I'll use whatever tool I
need to, whether it's proprietary or open. Being able to compete with my
sighted peers is by far the highest priority for me.
I know about the occasional words that will crash Eloquence, and I've
run into a few malicious people who like including them in emails and
IRC channels, but other than that, I haven't had any stability or
reliability issues with Voxin, so I'll keep using it until I do.
I also don't have any trouble installing Voxin. I just download a tar
file from Oralux, unpack it and run and install script. I can do this
for Emacspeak or just Voxin. I'm also doing this on both 32-bit and
64-bit systems.

Wildly overexagerated popularity is not synonymous with fit for a production
environment. Just look at Windows, which is somehow wildly popular, but I
would never recommend using it in a production environment, especially one
that publicly faces the internet, although many people do.
