Hi,

\begin{quote}
Trouble with Arch is that you have to do so much from scratch. This
is, at least, my understanding. Somebody get on here and correct me
if Iâm wrong. How long does it take to get an Arch installation up
and running? Debian and Ubuntu take like 30 to 45 minutes and you
have a fuly functioning desktop or server system. Iâve heard similar
stuff about slackware and Gentoo. How much truth to this is there?
\end{quote}

The big difference is that the Arch installation images include no
graphical installer, but there are several installation scripts for
e.g. installing the base system and all steps to get a basic system
working are documented quite well and understandable in the wiki. Your
first installation might take some time - even some hours, but when
finished, you understand lots of internals which are hidden by the
graphical installers (partitioning, setup of your boot loader...) and
this might help you in the future to deal with trouble, e.g. when
updating the system. And consider that you have to set up your system
only once as Arch is rolling release and major updates will always
only affect a part of your system (e.g. upgrade to a new Gnome
version). The only reasons for me to perform Arch installations within
the last 1.5 years were hardware issues and setups for people I am
supporting with Linux.
An issue for blind users might be that the basic live images don't
include brltty and you have to set up your network "blind" or with
help and install it to get started. There have been images with at
least speakup, but as I know they are out of date. Since about 1 year
or so, I am building special images which include brltty and several
modules I need to get started.

Cheers,
Jakob
