Hi,

First off, edit the config file, and remove the 'disable-keymenu', then
run alpine.

Sorry, I did not find the line disable-keymenu

This will make things very chatty, but you'll get a menu at every turn.
You won't see any messages after entering your box, until you hit the 'i'
key for 'index'. The screen will change to a display of your messages,
from oldest to newest, by default. Hitting 'enter' on the highlighted
message opens it in the viewer. 'i' will put you back in the index, 'r'
will let you compose a reply, 'f' will forward, ';' will put you into the
selector thing... At any point in alpine, you can hit '?' for help. The
documentation is very extensive. more compressed documentation is in
'/usr/share/doc/alpine/'.One thing you might want to do is hit the
's' for 'setup/configure alpine' command; this will show you all options
available.

Basically, my problem is that it is already very chatty and I here a
lot of / and _ for a long time before I can do any thing.
Secondly, I once managed to get into the index using i (don't know how
it worked, but it did once ) I did as you instructed and indeed the
message opened.
I tryed to press i again but could not get the index back.
Lastly if I by mistake get into the reply mode and want to quit, I
don't find a way out.
Happy hacking.
Krishnakant.
