The classpath is very important.
If you are using openjdk then it is some thing like 
/usr/lib/java/java-6-openjdk/jre/ext
I might be slightly off the track but I am sure its there and not 
/usr/share/java where lot of jar files are found.
This is a confusing pitfall.
