Hy List,
Bill, yes, this is nice ydea with you would like, I maximum agree,
possible some users not known, we talked few weeks later a little
keyboard standardization purpose with longer time period.
If you would like in GNOME a default keybinding for example launch Orca,
need do a patch with gnome-settings-daemon source code, need add missing
items in gnome-settings-daemon source code the
data/gnome-settings-daemon.schemas.in file the accessibility related
keybindings part, and need complete the 50-accessibility.xml.in file
with new accessibility related added keybinding gconf keybinding keys.
I do good progress of this task my local machine few weeks ago, and
welcome do a feature request and attach the finalized patch if have a
general community accepted specification. The community what default
keybinding would like to launch Orca command, and what general command
the best? For example Ctrl+Alt+o keybinding command is good, and orca
--replace command is enough this purpose?
Following part is little offtopic, but interesting ydea with longer time
period, but I don't no the community accepts this ydea, or absolute not
would like:
Now, in general, some keybindings are disabled general in
gnome-keybinding-properties preference tool (launch Web Browser, launch
e-mail client, etc). The longer time purpose to happen add default
international declared keystrokes this now disabled keybinding commands
if accessible installation is happening a distribution if this is
possible, in Ubuntu installer for example this is easy to do. The main
advantage with this longer time ydea if have international talked equals
keystrokes, this is easyest the international education for visual
impaired users. Possible this is not good ydea, I don't no.
The main problem: what style keystrokes we use with this purpose if the
community would like accept this ydea? Ctrl+Alt+letter style based
keystrokes, Ctrl+Shift+letter style keystrokes, or for example
super+letter combinations? I writing now with hungarian users report me
with special BeLin distribution for visual impaired users:
For example, in hungarian BeLin distribution we now changed we oldest
time used custom Ctrl+Alt based keystrokes, because some hungarian users
report me the Ctrl+Alt based keystrokes is some time difficulter the
users hand. We tryed Ctrl+Shift based changed keystrokes, but because
lot of keystrokes conflicting with builtin application keybinding
commands. Final, we migrate to super+letter combinations, because with
Linux systems and applications does'nt use the super key combinations.
Final, with hungarian visual impaired BeLin users we talked following
keystrokes with this little special distribution:
Launch or restart Orca: Super+o
Launch Web Browser: Super+w
Launch E-mail Client: Super+e
Open Home folder: Super+h
Launch Calculator: Super+s (because in hungarian translation with
calculator word is "szÃmolÃgÃp")
Launch Gedit Text Editor: Super+g
Launch Openoffice.org Writer: Super+r
Launch Openoffice.org Calc: Super+t (because Openoffice.org Calc
translation is Openoffice.org TÃblÃzatkezelÅ)
Launch Terminal: Ctrl+Alt+t (in Ubuntu 10.04 this command is default
defined with accessible installation, we not change this command keystroke)
So, this is difficult question. I absolute agree if the community only
want a general Orca launch keystroke, but not want another standardized
keystrokes.
Thoughs,
Attila
