I don't agree with this last point. I feel you should be told what
the progress even if it is standing still so to speak. I say this
because if the progress box stopped talking for any extended period,
one could surmise that the application failed or got hung or
something. I suppose an unchanging progress bar could imply the same
thing but at least you know your machine isn't locked up or
something.
I agree with you Steve, I was saying the same thing, but I was just
confused about the actual question of the person who started the thread.
I was just trying to put things in proper context so that we understand
what exactly was being asked.
You are right and I believe a progress bar talking (updating ) every x
seconds also gives us an idea of how slow or fast the progress is really
happening so even I would like the updates goin on every x seconds
decided by the user.
This is proper by HCI rules because perception and information
communication are one of the most important parts imho.
