Thanks, this works, but I'm sorry I was not more explicit in my
question. The point of using MC, I assumed, was to avoid having to use
the mouse. How do I select text and put it into the system clipboard
with the keyboard?

i believe it is not possible, although it may be a nice feature to
have 'ctrl-c' and 'ctrl-v' do copying and pasting.
