you could use shift-click to select a buffer, then go into another
terminal and shift-middleclick to paste into that editor, this uses
X11's clipboard instead of midnight commanders...

Thanks, this works, but I'm sorry I was not more explicit in my
question. The point of using MC, I assumed, was to avoid having to use
the mouse. How do I select text and put it into the system clipboard
with the keyboard?
