some difficulty.

Regarding, gtkglarea, along with gtk2 came gtkglarea2, which is what I'm
using. The only problem I'm having with it is that it doesn't have a
pkg-config entry.

gtkglarea2 is perhaps a port, but the author himself recommends
using gtkglext.  And it has a pkg-config entry :).
