For some wired reason I always run into problems which other people 
don't have. Usually I try it for a few hours and then give up and do 
something else :|

Anyway. I have compiled it with prefix /usr and also specifically 
checked out tag 3.8.0, before I was building from master. Still I am 
getting the same error as I posted above and the panel segfaults. Now I 
am getting one additional warning about a Glib-Object though:
