Some more links:
http://cgi.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc?ad/00-02-02
for doing everything IDL does in UML
and
ftp://ftp.omg.org/pub/docs/ad/99-10-02.pdf
http://cgi.omg.org/techprocess/meetings/schedule/tech2a.html#mod
for the latest XMI spec
James Henstridge told me he would gladly accept a patch to dia to do
XMI exporting, and I think you can add hooks to actions on dia objects,
so turning dia into a full-fledged uml editor shouldn't be impossible.
