Using SVG would make it close to impossible to reverse the 
transformation (SVG -> UML). Take a look at http://www.omg.org/uml/ 
for references to XMI - UML expressed using an application of XML. 
Or maybe building upon RDF http://www-db.stanford.edu/~melnik/rdf/uml/ 
(read the archives of www-rdf-interest at w3.org (April and May this year)).
