I received one such email today (sent with MS Outlook 12). 
The relevant excerpt is:

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font
-family:Wingdings'>J</span><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font
-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p
class=3DMsoNormal><span …

As you see, it's a simple J in Wingdings font.
