This is merely a matter of suspend-to-disk or suspend-to-ram actually working with your hardware. Especially suspend-to-ram never works out-of the-box, don't mess with it if you don't know what you're doing. Distro's can never know what is necessary to get suspend working on your model laptop, so you cannot rely on it.
