With a little Google help I found this: 
<http://www.linux.org.tw/~shchang/vcf2ldif/vcf2ldif.tgz>
and did this after installing the thing:
$ vcf2ldif list.vcf | cat > list.ldif
and the file imported wonderfully to Mozilla Mail!
But I'm still sticking to Evo...:-)
