AFAIK, the first generation video codec used by µEkiga is H.261
The second generation is H.263+, Theora, MPEG4
The third generation is H.264.
H.264 was designed to use half bandwidth compared to H.263 for the same
quality. H.264 is the best video codec in Ekiga. And it is a standard
you can find in hardware phones like e.g.
