While this is perfectly OK for packages hosted in a non-official Debian
repository (like seconix.com), AFAIK this won't be the case for the
official Debian package, which unfortunately will completely lack x264
support.

This because Debian distinguishes three different kind of package
categories: main, contrib and non-free [1].  If ekiga build-depends on
x264 (which, BTW, is *still* not present as a Debian package, neither in
non-free), ekiga itself will have to be put in non-free, which is
something I won't prefer.
