I don't like this either. This just makes no sense.
Very often a bug report could become a merge request (someone — either
the original bug reporter or someone else — could bring a patch later)
or a merge request could become a bug report (if the original patch is
not right; yet the bug actually exists, we acknowledge it and don't
want to just get rid of the report because we would forget about the
bug). In other words, they are the same things. A "merge request" is
simply a bug report where a patch has been proposed. I don't
understand why they had to make 2 concepts.
I didn't mention it earlier because I imagined that would never change
anyway and I would just have to live with this strange separation.
Gitlab just obviously tries to do the same as github here. But since
you mention it. Yeah I also think this is a completely broken
workflow.
