Re: IRC Meeting Action Items - 20100921

Great idea, stormy

Fortunately, one member of the BGUG is running a online shop selling USB with live Linux images. That's sounds very easy for us to adding USB in the event box and also sounds a good business for his online shops.

Maybe another idea instead of a laptop is a USB stick with a live image. That way people could boot their laptops from that image if they wanted to show a clean install of GNOME.

Dear Brian,

Thanks! I think so as well. During the discussion in IRC, members also believe we don't really need to have laptop or projectors or cables in the box, what we need is more GNOME related stuff , so people can recognise that the organisers with the box equipment are from GNOME.

We already started to write down ideas in the http://live.gnome.org/GnomeAsia/EventKit  page. And we believe option 2 as below is the event box we are planning to create. And definitely, we need to make all artworks of posters and flyers available and easy to find for Asian contributors to localise and produce locally as well. But so far i went through the gnome site and wiki , I just found some ambassador name card template ...

Besides, we also need to think about how to finance the Asian kit.

From the wiki:

Option 2

We may also consider to produce some light weight event kits (only GNOME related stuff) to give to those who planned to have local GNOME User Group and apply for it and are located in Asia.

It's good to have this event kit ready before the GNOME.Asia Summit 2011, so we can give one or two kits in the next location and stimulate local passionate people to start a local GNOME user group.

Suggested Contents in the Kit

  1. 3 GNOME t-shirts
  2. 3 GNOME bag
  3. 10 GNOME badges
  4. 1 GNOME banner - 1 x 2.5 m, with some rope to hang it
  5. 2 GNOME table cloth (to put on a booth table) - 1.5 x 2 m
  6. A large black and white plastic/acrylic GNOME Foot poster
  7. 2 large HP GNOME posters

Other suggestion

  1. To upload artworks of posters / flyers / banners in the wiki for localization and local production.

Budget amount and how to finance and produce them?

Your further comment is appreciated.

Everybody to look at : http://live.gnome.org/GnomeEventsBox and think of
starting an Asian event box to be produced and used in Asia. Ideas can
be collected on http://live.gnome.org/GnomeAsia/EventKit

What I think is more important is to have the brochures, pamphlets,
banners, etc. available and translated to Asian languages.  This is
probably the first step before acquiring a laptop.

It may not be necessary for GNOME.Asia Event Box to include a laptop.
It is often possible for people running booths to use their own
computers to demonstrate GNOME, for example.

I think the brochures, pamphlets, banners, etc. are actually the most
important thing in the Event Box.  But they are only useful in Asia if
they are translated.

I'd say getting the stuff translated should be done before worrying
about getting a laptop in the Event Box.

I am thinking about have a GNOME store in China, and we can produce
several event kit and send to other places where there is a GNOME group.
For example, we can send to Taipei, Indian, etc.

Nice idea!
