Yes, this was introduced in OS X 10.5, although it's a little more hidden than the proposals here. In OS X, a search box appears on the Help menu, and searches both menu items and help topics as you type. If you select a menu item from the list of results, you are shown where in the menu hierarchy the command lives.
I thought about it and in the end I come up with the idea that the entry should be hidden and only visible when has focus or the mouse is over so in this mouckip:

only the bold
Format will remain and the arrow will go as close to Format as possible thus saving space for more items and reducing line clutter and making the whole thing one integrated part as I have tried to do in my gtk theme:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/New+Wave?content=87134In it I tried to remove any unnecessary lines except the ones that will harm usability.
So what's going on from now on. I myself come to these conclusions:
* Is the idea possible - yes
* Is it usability improvement - yes
* Is it user friendly - yes and no depending on the user's background
Next step: ??? (maybe ask some mac guys how do they feel about this command?)
