FWIW. The OS/2 Workplace Shell, which is a very spatial "object-oriented user interface", by default provided a 'tree view' next to the icon- and list views. Imagine Nautilus' tree sidebar in browse mode, but now as the content of a folder window, where the "root" is the current folder.

Yes, this brings back hierarchies into the spatial model, which might not be desirable. OTOH it provides a convenient way to prevent lots of open windows when you're looking for a very deeply nested folder.

So what do people think, is this worth considering?
