Exactly. It seems like we should first empirically determine the most
usable behavior for the largest number of users. Then add appropriate
configurations for those users who might like it to be different. Such
options should be there to provide flexibility, but not to sidestep
concerns about the default behavior. If the default behavior is tested
and the results incorporated, fewer configuration options and fewer
disparate behaviors may be necessary.
