Hi
I don't really use playlists because I like just to listen to all my
music and let Rhythmbox shuffle through it.
Yeah, I think that's a really common use case for Rhythmbox. More
common than I'd realized up until fairly recently.
I think it could be great to have some sort of jukebox playlist where
you could drag songs to.
So I'd been thinking recently about supporting this. Here's a start,
just to get discussion going:
http://web.rhythmbox.org/uidesign/
I think the overall key idea is that I really like the browser
interface, and we should focus a lot on that.
Why not make i a source where you could drag songs to?
Then the funcionality is keept alike the rest. No need to discover a
brand new way of doing things to use the jukebox. This way we keep the
UI like it is (which i think is great).
I thought that you could make the context menu (right mouse click menu)
i the library contain something like this:
Context menu:
Copy
Delete
-------------
Browse... >
Play... >
Jukebox >
-------------
Properties
Browse... menu:
This genre
This artist
This album
Play... menu:
This genre
This artist
This album
Jukebox menu:
Add song to Jukebox
Add genre to jukebox
Add artist to jukebox
Add album to jukebox
For all it should ofcourse be possible to select multiple
songs/artists/genres.
I like the idear to se the number Rhythmbox would like to play next time
but not the idear that it should take up extra space in the UI.
It think alternativliy you could make the text:
Next: [artist] - [title]
roll down where the current song artist and title is displayed for some
seconds and then roll back to the normal text displaying the current
playing song. Then we use the the space already reserved for displaying
song title and artists.
This it not only something usable to jukebox functionality.
What is the difference between Shuffle and the jukebox functionality?
What if when you check the shuffle checkbox Rhythmbox uses the jukebox
playlist (or we could call it shuffle playlist).
Here it think of a list like the one 'David Hammerton' linked to from
iTunes.
This would add extra functionality but not alter any current
functionality. The current users of Shuffle wouldn't notice/feel/see a
difference if they didn't knew.
They would still get shuffled songs the could still just click on a song
in their library to play it if they wanted.
I think that when you double click on a song in the Music library it
should start playing right away (not being added to the queue).
For ease of use we could ad at Ctrl + Mouse double click would add the
song to the jukebox playlist og drag'n'drop or the context menu above.
The proposal above leaves a lot out (including the search bar I just
noticed).
The search bar isn't needed in the jukebox play list is it?
Hope you can use my feedback.
