Re: [orca-list] Why is key echo on by default?

Hello there,

I really do agree with the orca setup screen option you suggested, it would be helpful and kool to have such a thing, both for new and experienced users.

For new users it would be a quick tutorial kind of thing to be able to perform basic operations with their Linux OS and Orca, so they can read the entire docs later, while for experienced users, it might be useful, because it might serve as a refresh.

Best regards.

Francisco.

I vote to have an "Ocrca setup" screen open the first time Orca is launched on a new system, which gives general navigation tips, and guides the user through configuring. Of course, there should be a "quit" button there too for those who just want to get right to their system.

Similar to the verbose verbosity level, key echo is on by default for
new users. I'm OK with that, although I would prefer a toggle key that
is bound by default, also similar to the verbosity level toggle. So
those of us who have used it for a long time and turn it off right from
the start can just press a single key combination to toggle it off
instead of having to go into the preferences and turn it off under the
key echo tab. That said, I can also see the merrits of the argument
that we're already going into preferences the first time we start Orca
on a new system, so there is no need to change anything.
