Emacspeak, as shipped in the Slint iso, will work with espeak, out of the box. Will have to test its current volume. If you own Voxin, you can install that into Slint, and configure emacspeak to use it instead.
Espeakup, speechdup, and fenrir are configured correctly, and are run as services. There are many handy scripts for user to run, which help get this stuff set up correctly. E. G. Speak-with to set console screen review. Display manager, gui, and how you want emacs to talk, are all easily switchable, just by running scripts.
