Hi all. Retroarch is a tool which gives users access to game console emulators in a streamlined, single program. It has been made accessible. Along with the user interface accessibility, one can have Retroarch use a translation service to capture screen output, and speak the text found, thereby making game menus and dialog accessible. This does not mean that gameplay is changed. One still must be able to play the game without sight, so fighting games are still best for blind people, along with some sports titles, but this means that the OCR enjoyed by blind users of other operating systems, along with accessible emulators, has come too all major desktop operating systems, including Linux. Also, other emulators can vary widely in accessibility. With Retroarch, since everything is in one system, accessibility will not change across game systems. If you have a video game controller, you can set it up for Retroarch, and all systems will use that setup. You will need the latest nightly build of Retroarch, not the current 1.8.1 release. 1.8.2 should be released in a few days, if you’d rather wait for that.
